File Name too long with encrypted home directory [eCryptfs]

Nextcloud version (eg, 20.0.5): 27.0.1
Operating system and version (eg, Ubuntu 20.04): Linux Mint 21.2 Cinnamon

Hello,

I have installed desktop client on a new computer with encrypted homefolder (ecryptfs using Linux Mint), and I am now seeing a lot of errors while trying to sync my folders through Desktop client, with the following error “name file too long”. It seems that the whole path is considered as a file name, and shortening these path is not an option for me. Is there any workaround to have the desktop client syncing with encrypted homefolder at this point ? I’ve seen I wasn’t the first to encounter this error, but didn’t find any solution so far. Does anyone know if this issue is somehow considered by Nextcloud team?

Thank you in advance for your help.

It appears this is inherent to eCryptfs when enabling its built-in filename encryption?

There may be some options on the eCryptfs side (like disabling filename encryption for one), but not much Nextcloud can do about this.

Well, thank you for the answer. Then I guess a quick fix would be to remove NextCloud folder from home directory.
