When looking at the details for a directory, it tells me how large it is, but it doesn’t tell me how many files are in that directory. I think that’s essential information and it would be awesome if this could be displayed.

I agree this is important.
As a workaround for now, I select all files in the directory by checking the checkbox in the header and then it shows how many files were selected. Doesn’t help with sub-directories, though.
