extreme beginner - messed up my installation

The Basics

  • Nextcloud Server version (e.g., 29.x.x):
    • I don't know? Nextcloud Spring 26
  • Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 24.04):
    • Fedora Server 44
  • Web server and version (e.g, Apache 2.4.25):
    • I don't know?
  • Reverse proxy and version _(e.g. nginx 1.27.2)
    • I'm pretty sure I do not have a reverse proxy
  • PHP version (e.g, 8.3):
    • I don't know?
  • Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? (Yes / No):
    • Yes
  • When did this problem seem to first start?
    • A couple of hours ago
  • Installation method (e.g. AlO, NCP, Bare Metal/Archive, etc.)
    • AIO v13.6.0
  • Are you using CloudfIare, mod_security, or similar? (Yes / No)
    • Yes? My domain is from Cloudflare

Summary of the issue you are facing:

CONTEXT: My homelab has this configuration:
1.) 1 TB SSD
2.) mergerfs setup thing with three drives. The mergerfs drive thing is called /mnt/storage.

So, this all started because I was confused and lost (despite looking at documentation) on the fact that I installed nextcloud (using the docker master container. I didn’t use any run commands. I used the master container compose file) on my 1 TB SSD, but I wanted my files that I upload to live on /mnt/storage.

I decided to take a risk and stop all the nextcloud containers, delete them, move the compose file to /mnt/storage/Nextcloud. I could access the AIO just fine, but apache is stuck with this message from logs:

Message: Could not start container nextcloud-aio-apache: {"message":"failed to set up container networking: driver failed programming external connectivity on endpoint nextcloud-aio-apache (51f179c939c6f514637d4a70b917e9a337bb2d57443d1cd2480fdd5ec6d2bd1c): failed to bind host port 0.0.0.0:443/tcp: address already in use"}

I decided to make things worse and just remove all containers again and move back to the ssd, to which the same error message:

Message: Could not start container nextcloud-aio-apache: {"message":"failed to set up container networking: driver failed programming external connectivity on endpoint nextcloud-aio-apache (51f179c939c6f514637d4a70b917e9a337bb2d57443d1cd2480fdd5ec6d2bd1c): failed to bind host port 0.0.0.0:443/tcp: address already in use"}

So now I’m stuck here. I don’t even know where to start.

Hi, it looks like you should probably start fresh. See GitHub - nextcloud/all-in-one: 📦 The official Nextcloud installation method. Provides easy deployment and maintenance with most features included in this one Nextcloud instance. · GitHub

thanks! i’ll try this. if this does work, I still wanted to figure out the solution to the initial problem i had: which was, if I had nextcloud installed on my ssd, I want it to have access to my /mnt/storage where i could put my uploaded files and such on there. is there something I can do before i reinstall AIO? something I need to put in the docker compose file?

I tried this, even the optional step. But it seems like I’m at a similar stuck point. Apache doesnt start, this is what it says in the logs for apache:

nc: getaddrinfo for host “nextcloud-aio-nextcloud” port 9000: Try again

edit: i have tried to restart fresh again

what i notice is that domaincheck doesnt automatically start, and so when i open up aio for the first time, i need to manually start domaincheck to continue.

after, i skip verification for the domain.

and then, once i build containers, the same issue persists:

2026-09-07T01:35:35.665012353Z Message: Could not start container nextcloud-aio-apache: {“message”:“failed to set up container networking: driver failed programming external connectivity on endpoint nextcloud-aio-apache (eccde2158cfec598a476cd47077627828361b1c3ff1dd31ff17a21c86d6adc00): failed to bind host port 0.0.0.0:443/tcp: address already in use”}

edit 2: i even did a fresh reinstall of my entire fedora 44 os. downloaded nextcloud as new. same issue:

2026-09-07T05:46:27.390267512Z Message: Could not start container nextcloud-aio-apache: {“message”:“failed to set up container networking: driver failed programming external connectivity on endpoint nextcloud-aio-apache (074ec2a52772099be1ae752d55ef183b77efbb5f2b223efc04bec4cc1bdf3e61): failed to bind host port 0.0.0.0:443/tcp: address already in use”}

alright, it appears that i solved it

the default installation method isn’t very compatible if you have multiple other docker containers running alongside nextcloud aio. i assume that if my server only had nextcloud aio, then we’d be good.

i found this: Tailscale (and Caddy as a sidecar) Reverse Proxy · nextcloud/all-in-one · Discussion #5439 · GitHub

so far, so good. it worked.
