So this has been reported for 5 years and then this thread was just closed? External Storage - Linked to your Photo's App

Is it honestly not possible to use network storage in any form to link with Photos app? I mean honestly who runs Nextcloud on a 2TB drive?

I don’t actually use the Nextcloud server itself to host ANY files, it is all linked via an NFS share. So why can’t Photos do the same thing?

You must be frustrated. I’m no expert on this but like to help. Seeing the history and your observations, probably your conclusion matches the current situation.

There is no ‘Photos’ app in my search results, would you mind linking to the app in question?

As a workaround, you could look into SSHFS to mount your photo location inside of Nexctloud.

As an aside,

I don’t really understand what you want to ask. Why does it need to be exactly 2TB?

The Photos app supports External Storage mounts just fine. (And it has since June 2021).

That thread is five years old.

No idea what the couple 2023 comments on it are about; that’s kind of the problem and why the thread likely got closed: The mods have been cleaning out old dormant threads in the forum so that people don’t pick them up later when the info in them is no longer accurate.

Unfortunately there are thousands so it’s not realistic to add clarifying comments to them all.

That’s not a report. It’s a random forum post. It’s neither a bug report nor enhancement idea – those are handled via GitHub.

Then even that old thread was irrelevant. NFS shares are handled at the OS level. They’re not mounted via Nextcloud’s External Storage support. Nextcloud just sees them as local files.
