Anyone else having problems reaching update.nextcloud.com or download.nextcloud.com?
yes, because it is updates.nextcloud.com
works now. Perhaps they did some maintenance…
I dont think so cause I still can’t hit updates.nextcloud.com, docs.nextcloud.com, or download.nextcloud.com. Have you heard of nextcloud IP blocking people? I can hit all the sites just fine using my phone network or a vpn, just not my home net which has a static ip. I’ve run a personal nextcloud server for years but this is the first time I haven’t been able to hit those sites from my home network
both docs and download works for me now. my monitoring bot in CH didn’t report issues today..
Hi beautiful people,
it works here, too, but of course in some places and by some service providers sometimes our IP addresses are blocked. So if you have issues please share as much info as you can - where you are, what your ISP is. I know, that is private information, I can ask a sysadmin to join here & talk to you 1:1 to figure things out if you rather not share that info, totally OK.
We can’t always fix this, by the way, but at least we can have a look.
And no, we don’t really block anything from what I know - we do have some spam IP banning I’m sure and that CAN go nuts sometimes, but that’s usually when somebody on your IP (not per-se you) did something really weird. If it’s so on our side it should go away in a while - hours, days…
EDIT: as one example, in Russia Nextcloud IP’s are generally blocked. For some reason the Russian government doesn’t like its citizens to have privacy. No idea why a totalitarian police state dislikes privacy
What a friendly and informative reply! Thank you for taking the time to respond and for your suggestions @jospoortvliet!
I am in the USA and have a fiber ISP. My home network is all IPv4 and IPv6 is disabled. I know my country has gone through some changes as of late, but I’m pretty sure they aren’t blocking me from hitting German IP’s If I did something to get me blocked by Nextcloud than I sincerely apologize and want to fix whatever action caused me to be blocked/throttled.
I can still reach nextcloud.com, but just can’t reach the docs, download, and updates. Upon further troubleshooting, I noticed that they all share the same IP (5.9.202.145). I cannot ping this IP from my home network, however I can via an alternate network/VPN. In order to eliminate any DNS routing errors, I tried hitting this IP directly by putting it in the address bar. On any other network other than my home network, it takes me to the Nextcloud docs page. I’ve sent a message to my ISP to see if they are seeing a similar drop elsewhere on their network and am waiting to hear back.
When running a trace, I can see my packets are getting dropped just after s11.nextcloud.com [148.251.126.213].
ok, perhaps something comes out of that. I’ve also asked our sysadmins to have a look and, if they can figure something out or know something, respond here.
Test and post your result of:

Got it fixed!!! The problem was due to a block by my ISP.
From what I’m told, they put a block across an entire range IPs that included 5.9.202.145 as a result of “bad behaving neighbors”. They added an exception for this IP when I requested it. According to whois, 5.9.202.145, along with a big chunk of IP’s is actually owned by Hetzner Online GmbH, which is a German webhosting company which where the Nextcloud team must host docs and store the public repository. Unfortunately, I’ve found that sometimes those webhosting ip’s can become “tainted” from bad actors.
Thank you for everyone’s help and responses! This issue is now resolved.
