Hi,

i want to migrate a nextcloud server and following the process in the nextcloud documentation it is expected that the domain name is a CNAME and to just edit the value.

My domain record is a A record.

Technically this should not change anything during the migration, I remove the A record, create a CNAME, wait for propagation and voilà, but I wanted to be sure so I made this post to see if anyone has ever encountered a problem with a migration using A records.

Regards

No need to worry about A record. Once you are ready to change the server just adopt the IP address of the A record.

The idea behind the CNAME is that you can run (e.g. test) both servers in parallel using using their real A names… while CNAME is a well-known and maybe better sounding name like cloud.mycompany vs server432.hosting
