Disable integrated PDF viewer in Android App?

Some recent version of the Nextcloud App switched to using an integrated PDF viewer app (provided by Collabora, I think?) instead of the Document Viewer native to Android.

Unfortunately, the integrated viewer is very slow and clunky on my device, making the experience of quickly viewing a PDF very annoying, almost useless. Which is a shame, because it used to be very smooth.

I would prefer to continue using Document Viewer, which is my default PDF viewer on my phone, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to configure this - unless I missed something?

I’m using a Fairphone 4, running Android 13, with the Nextcloud App version 3.31.2.

Didn’t you find this thread in the Fairphone-forum?

No, I didn’t find it. Having read it, the information doesn’t apply. It’s written for FP5, which has Android 14. The described methods for changing file associations don’t work the same on Android 13.

Also, only the Nextcloud app suffers from this issue. It is using a built-in PDF viewer instead of the system default one, which I strongly dislike.

It is the similar proceeding in all Android versions. Did you select the app, whicht runs automatically?

Like I said, the issue is specific to the Nextcloud app - it decides to use a built-in PDF viewer, without giving me any other option, and ignoring the systemdefault. All other apps present a choice of viewer to use if there’s more than one available.

Nextcloud Office only handles PDFs if the default files_pdfviewer app has been disabled (either entirely or for a given user through app restrictions).

Well, it will also for public shares if Secure View is in-use, but that’s not applicable here.

There are also some other office apps which behave a bit different or can impact behavior when installed at the same time (i.e. OnlyOffice).
