The Basics

  • Nextcloud Server version:

  • Web server: Apache (inside Nextcloud AIO container)
  • Reverse proxy and version: nginx 1.22 (separate host)
  • PHP version: PHP 8.2

Summary of the issue you are facing:

Attachments inside Deck cards do not open inline in the Nextcloud viewer.

The viewer panel starts opening but then collapses or the interface becomes visually broken.
The file is not rendered.

However:

  • Right-click → open in new tab → file opens correctly

  • Opening the direct file URL works

  • File metadata is successfully fetched

This suggests the issue is related to the integration between Deck and the Viewer sidebar.

The issue happens identically in both:

  • A long-running legacy installation

  • A completely fresh Nextcloud AIO deployment

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

Open the Nextcloud web interface

  1. Open the Deck app

  2. Open a card containing an attachment (image or PDF)

  3. Click directly on the attachment

Result:

  • Viewer sidebar begins to open

  • UI flickers or collapses

  • File is not displayed
