Debian Server for Nextcloud with Ext4 or BTRFS Filesystem

Hello together,
I want to install a new Nextcloud Server.
I want to use a Debian Server, but I don’t which filesystem is the best.
Ext4 or BTRFS
Ext4 is very stable.
BTRFS has more features.

The Nextcloud file size would be 2TB

Regards Arthur

hi
i would use ext4, with raid 1 mode (hardware or software)
The features of BTRFS make you sacrifice half of your hard drive storage…

As you already figured out: It depends on what you want.
EXT4 is rock solid.
If you want snapshots (aka logical backups) only BTRFS can do that.
But if you have other means of backups EXT4 might be enough for you.
It really depends on your preference, both will be a good choice

Unfortunately, I am not a Linux specialist.
I have read that BTRFS volumes can be enlarged more easily.
The snapshot feature is interesting, but only for Samba file servers I think.
The Nextcloud Server should run on Proxmox and I want to backup the VMs with Synology Active Backup for Business Agent or Veeam Agent.

Then I would suggest to simply go with EXT4 for now. It is a lot more beginner friendly as there are not that many knobs to turn.

OK, thanks
