On June 30, 2024, Debian 10 “Buster” LTS will reach End-Of-Life.
Buster is now a museum piece and should no longer be used. The php-updater script will cease support for Debian 10 on June 30. The current dpkg version is still 1.19.8 and apt is at 1.8.2.3. This means they cannot handle the modern cryptography used in modern package management.
For comparison:
- On Debian Bookworm, dpkg is at 1.21.22 and apt is at 2.6.1.
- On a new Ubuntu 24.04, dpkg is at 1.22.6 and apt is at 2.7.14.
Due to current circumstances - as I can discern from the fingerprints of various server operating systems running Nextcloud, that many are still on Buster - I cannot stress enough how important it is for you to plan ahead and have your servers upgraded already. Yesterday was too late.
Much and good luck,
ernolf
