Getting help
In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.
Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:
- Official documentation (searchable and regularly updated)
- How to topics and FAQs
- Forum search
(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).
Some or all of the below information will be requested if it isn’t supplied; for fastest response please provide as much as you can.

Summary of the issue you are facing:
Hi, I have a nextcloud server on a Raspberry Pi4B, while the “data” folder is located externally on a Synology NAS connected to Lan. For a few months I have noticed some errors in the registration log (the one found in the administrator settings) with reference to files in the “data” folder. By delving into the issue and looking for solutions on the web and also with the help of copilot, I understood that the problem was in the permissions of the files and folders on the NAS that do not have the owner www-data, but the Synology user with which I log in. The problem is that from the Raspberry it does not allow me to change the owner as well as the permissions both by connecting it with “nfs” and with “cifs”. Does anyone know if there is some other method that I can try, or is there some configuration of the NAS that cannot be modified? I had found here in the community someone who with a similar configuration had removed the mapping in nfs and had managed to modify the owner and permissions, but then the server would not start anymore. It’s strange because in normal use the files that I upload, download or delete from the cloud, are correctly removed even without ownership of www-data. Is it a problem with how the NAS manages shared folders (maybe with another NAS of another brand it can work), or can I make some software changes that allow me to keep my current hardware configuration?
I also have problems with some cron that are not carried out.
Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):
- update server
- update cron

Tips for increasing the likelihood of a response
- Use the
preformatted text
formatting option in the editor for all log entries and configuration output. - If screenshots are useful, feel free to include them.
- If possible, also include key error output in text form so it can be searched for.
- Try to edit log output only minimally (if at all) so that it can be ran through analyzers / formatters by those trying to help you.
