Crap I changed the wrong permissions

Nextcloud version (eg, 10.0.2):
Operating system and version (eg, Ubuntu 16.04): 16.04 serve

When I was upgrading I ran chmod -R 777 /var/www

So I could move the nextcloud folder to the www directory for the upgrade.

I am not sure what the permissions were and also the ones in the directory tree as well as everything in the www dir got changed to 777.

damn it

how do I fix this… what are the permissions in the www folder for hte html and contents, the nextcloud.old is also 777 and contents and also the “.” and the “…” are changed too and they are all green

:frowning:

I ran strong permissions and that didnt change those

EDIT

ok so I looked and I think I really jacked it up good

in the root dir the TMP is green with permissions set to

drwxrwxrwt 9 root root

then in cd/var the

drwxr-xr-x 14 root root 4096 Nov 5 01:27 . drwxr-xr-x 23 root root 4096 Jan 17 23:03 .. drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jan 20 06:25 backups drwxr-xr-x 9 root root 4096 Dec 20 22:17 cache drwxrwxrwt 2 root root 4096 Jan 16 06:25 crash drwxr-xr-x 49 root root 4096 Dec 20 22:17 lib drwxrwsr-x 2 root staff 4096 Apr 12 2016 local lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Nov 5 01:00 lock -> /run/lock drwxrwxr-x 13 root syslog 4096 Jan 21 06:25 log drwxrwsr-x 2 root mail 4096 Jul 19 2016 mail drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jul 19 2016 opt lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 Nov 5 01:00 run -> /run drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jun 29 2016 snap drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Nov 5 01:00 spool drwxrwxrwt 27 root root 4096 Jan 11 08:25 tmp drwxrwxrwx 5 root root 4096 Jan 21 23:07 www

and in cd /var/www

drwxrwxrwx 5 root root 4096 Jan 21 23:07 .
drwxr-xr-x 14 root root 4096 Nov 5 01:27 …
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Nov 5 01:27 html
drwxr-x— 15 root www-data 4096 Jan 21 23:23 nextcloud
drwxr-xr-x 16 root www-data 4096 Jan 21 22:44 nextcloud.old

I can’t speak for what anyone else chooses to do, however my www folder is set to 755, my Nextcloud folder and nested folders in it are set to 750, and the files inside are set to 640.

Hope that helps!

ok Thans I will try that and see how it goes
