Getting help
In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.
Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:
- Official documentation (searchable and regularly updated)
- How to topics and FAQs
- Forum search
(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).
Some or all of the below information will be requested if it isn’t supplied; for fastest response please provide as much as you can.

Summary of the issue you are facing:
With each update, checking the Administrative Overview, we are continually warned about a newer MariaDB version, e.g.
MariaDB version "11.8.2-MariaDB" detected. MariaDB >=10.6 and <=11.4 is suggested for
best performance, stability and functionality with this version of Nextcloud.
All of the threads/prior questions say “We do not officially support the newer version yet.”
So… Why not? What is it you expect to have broken between MariaDB versions 11.4 and 11.8? When was the last time a MariaDB minor-version update broke backwards compatibility that effected Nextcloud?
From the responses to earlier MariaDB version questions, a downgrade of MariaDB isn’t needed, yet the Warning clearly states "for best performance, stability and functionality with this version of Nextcloud"
that the MariaDB version should match the recommended versions.
- What is this based on??
- What problems are there with MariaDB versions
>= 11.4
?
I work to keep my Administrative Overview clear of any errors and warnings, yet despite that effort, the MariaDB warning persists and there is no concrete data made available on the Nextcloud site, that I could find, that justifies this warning being present in the Administrative overview?
I’ve run Nextcloud on Archlinux for several years beginning back with Ver. 25? Archlinux always provides versions of packages that match the current upstream release. (Arch did create php-legacy to continue PHP-8.2 specifically for Nextcloud). However, for the first couple of years of this install there was never a MariaDB version warning. Was there an issue in the version 11 release somewhere along the way?
I’m just trying to determine what level of “Warning” the MariaDB version warning amounts to, and if the recommendation is “You probably don’t need to downgrade” – then why the warning at all?
Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):
- Run Archlinux and Nextcloud (latest version)
- Check Administrative Overview
- Read warning about MariaDB Version warning.
