Nextcloud version: 29.0.3 - 29.0.3.4

Operating system: Linux 5.15.146.1-microsoft-standard-WSL2 #1 SMP Thu Jan 11 04:09:03 UTC 2024 x86_64 (Docker Windows)

Webserver: Apache/2.4.59 (Unix) (fpm-fcgi)

Database: pgsql PostgreSQL 16.3 on x86_64-pc-linux-musl, compiled by gcc (Alpine 13.2.1_git20240309) 13.2.1 20240309, 64-bit

The issue you are facing:
After trying to solve some Memories problems using this advice,

I got related errors:

“Cannot write into “config” directory!”
server in maintenance mode
background job execution failure

Adding
‘config_is_read_only’ => true
to config.php “solved” 1 and 2 above (I can access Nextcloud again), but not the underlying permissions issue and not 3. Why can’t I write to config? Why cron not working? How can I fix it?

what is the reason why the system can not write into config directory? I think you should look to solve the problem rather simply hide the warning with ‘config_is_read_only’ => true Maybe you should post the complete config.

As you are using musl based postgres you I assume you might have used other Alpine images as well. I don’t recall exactly but I could imagine memories require glibc based containers…

This is exactly the question I’m posing to the community: Why can’t I write into config, and how do I fix it?

I am a newbie, so there’s a lot I’m still learning.

I’d been using Memories without this problem for some time. It was immediately after editing the config when the config became unwriteable.

What “advice” exactly did you “solve”? The link is to a longer thread and it is absolutely not clear to me, what you exactly was trying to take.

WHAT did you edit exactly?

Since you are using AIO, did you follow this steps while enabling memories?:

Sorry, I posted the wrong link. I changed it and clarified the original post above.

I was trying to get Memories’s exiftool working. This is what I did:

The first suggestion did not work for me, so I set the binary explicitly using occ. The confirmation message looked wrong, so I double-checked config.php. It did not look like this, from farther down that longer thread. So I manually edited config.php by adding these two lines:

  'memories.exiftool' => '/config/www/nextcloud/custom_apps/memories/exiftool-bin/exiftool-amd64-musl',
  'memories.vod.path' => '/config/www/nextcloud/custom_apps/memories/exiftool-bin/go-vod-amd64',

Then I tried to run occ memories:index and got the config is unwriteable error.

No I did not. Is this related to the problem I’m having?

Of course. AIO is a very complete but at the same time very special case. You cannot apply solutions for complete other environments to it.

So stay close to the AIO Installation manual and you wil be safe or you are on your own.
