Can third-party Nextcloud service providers read your data if you use access via their web portal?

Hello,

Sorry for the newbie question. I wasn’t able to find a similar post via search.

My understanding is that even when using a third-party Nextcloud provider, that provider cannot read my data as long as I login and interact via the Nextcloud client. However, I’m wondering if the same holds true if I create and edit documents through the provider’s web portal via browser.

Thank you.

Hello,

as long as you use https the Transfer is encrypted.

But, as long as the data you store on Nextcloud is not encrypted, any admin who has access to the serverstorage can access your Data.
And if the app impersonate is installed on Nextcloud, any Nexcloud admin can also access your Nextcloud account in the same way You can…

AFAIK in most installations file-encryption isn’t enabled.

I see. I guess I will try to learn how to self-host then. Thank you for your response.
