Hi all.
So, I have a large number of documents inside a folder structure in my OpenMediaVault server. If I install Nextcloud is it possible that I just make it index those files instead of importing it into nXCloud database? I´d like the files to stay where they are in case I have a problem with the app/docker…
Thanks
from your post it’s not perfectly clear what you try to achieve. if you install Nextcloud there is not “automatic import”… with Docker you define which volumes the application can use/access. you can save/sync docs to Nextcloud but this will and should remain under full control of Nextcloud… you should never ever share Nextcloud server storage with third-party apps
The doubt is that if I install Nextcloud, can I have it to just index those files while living they where they are, or will it necessarily import them by copying/moving the files for its internal database…
Maybe you want External Storage. But Nextcloud need to know the external files in Nextcloud database. The files are not copied to Nextcloud. Only metadata e.g. filenames.
That was great. Using that I was able to connect my Nextcloud inside my Umbrel server with a share on my OMV server using SMB. That indexes the content of the remote server to my Nextcloud Umbrel, so I can see and manipulate files. Now what I need to figure out is how to really sync those files, so I can have a second copy inside my Nextcloud Umbrel in case my OMV server has a problem…
