The colors of our calendars have recently started to randomly change, and I can’t figure out why and how to stop it.
We have had an NC instance for our family for several years now. There are different calendars, one for each family member and several calendars for certain general categories of events.
The server was running NC 29, and I upgraded to NC 30 this morning, to no avail1. The calendar app is current (5.0.1).
We have multiple clients that synchronize calendars (and contacts and files etc.) with the server:
Several laptops with KDE Plasma (on Fedora 40 and on KDE neon)
Several android mobile phones (with DAVx5)
Two android tablet computers (also with DAVx5)
The calendars’ colors have recently started to change arbitrarily on the server. However often I change them back to what we want them to be, they change back within a few hours.
The new (“wrong”) colors are being synchronized with the laptops and most of the mobile devices but, interestingly, not with my own personal phone.
I have interrogated every family member – no-one is fooling around with the colors. Nothing has been changed, no new device has been introduced that might interfere with the colors, inadvertently synchronizing them back to the server. The mobile devices to perform automatic updates, but the most recent DAVx5 is from early August and the problems with calendar colors began some time in September.
I’m puzzled.
Would anyone have an idea how to troubleshoot this or even what the problem might be?
1 other than introducing new problems... I know that there are gazillions of PSAs that it's always a bad idea to upgrade NC to a ".0.0" version, especially if "it ain't broken", but this time something _was_ broken and besides, I do wonder why NC prominently announces NC 30/Hub 9 on their website when essential (if not to say "core") things like LDAP integration simply don't work with the new version yet, but that's just my 2c.
I am observing the same thing with a Nextcloud instance (not my own). The behavior has been going on for about a week or two. Only one calendar is affected. Other calendars remain unchanged. I synchronize the calendars with
Thunderbird Linux
KDE Plasma
NC-Client Android
Since KDE Plasma is a common denominator, only the affected calendar is synced with KDE applications and KDE Apps sync the color (Thunderbird does not), I will remove the NC calendar from the KDE applications. I will report
I had the very same problem recently.
I found that removing the link in merkuro fixed the issue for now.
I need to reconnect it at some point and troubleshoot properly.
Thanks, in the end I was able to fix it by removing the Nextcloud connection from one of our laptops, then re-instating it.
Should anyone in the future come here: This is a Linux laptop with KDE Plasma (v6.2) and the Akonadi information server.
We all have “our” colors back again
(Came back to this topic only to find that my post had never been committed, so yeah, it seems to me that there must be a bug in KDE’s Akonadi server.)
Just found your posting because I have the same problem with changing colours in KOrganiser. The colours also get changes on the calendar provider I have set up for my appointments not only in KOrganiser. I found out that the “digital Clock widget” (I hope it´s the correct name in English, in German it´s “digitale Uhr”) seems to be the cause of the problem.
When activating the events inside of the widget all the calendar colours change. They change randomly each time I use the drop down calendar.
Found no solution to the problem but to deactivate the events in the widget.
