Autoupload no longer deleting files from source device

I have no support question and have seen the support category. (Be aware that direct support questions will be deleted.)

Which general topic do you have

Good morning, everyone. I received a notification stating that, according to Google’s policies, Nextcloud no longer deletes files from my source device after performing an automatic upload. Is there any way to work around this issue? For instance, after completing the automatic upload, could the files be moved to a destination folder on the phone itself so I can centralize the uploads and delete everything manually later? Thank you.

It seems this is something that google restricts now, it’s also posted in the official release notes: Release 3.30.6 · nextcloud/android · GitHub

The only thing I notice that it does say “gplay flavor”. Maybe fdroid still allows it?
There’s also some discussion around that at Bring back option to remove auto uploaded files on Android · Issue #14204 · nextcloud/android · GitHub

I came here to ask if we can simply install from F-Droid instead and retain photo delete backup, because I really prefer to have that feature.

Has anyone tested to verify?

Yes Through f-Droid you can still set this option I have deleted the GPlay one and reinstalled the one from F-Droid and the options is there and working.

Wonderful, will do that now then, thanks for confirming.

Very glad to see this is still active via F-Droid. Love to see it!

Just an FYI. The trade-off with F-Droid (currently) is:

  • lack of Push notifications
  • lack of document scanner

Thanks jtr, thankfully I don’t need or rely on those features nearly as much as the automatic photo cleanup. That’s an easy decision to make for me but appreciate you calling that out here. hopefully others will find this topic and be able to make their decision based on this.
