Summary of the issue you are facing:

I have about 200GB of files I want to sync to NexCloud. This is mostly small files (no large photos/videos etc). I am seeing an upload speed in the client ui of < 50KB/s. Once it got to some bigger files (multi gb zip files), it seems to have done much better (didn’t see the speed though).

My client and server are on the same network (although connecting via domain name). The connection between the client and server is about 1Gb/s.

Total write activity on my array (not busy):

Server resource usage (its running more than nextcloud)

I tried this:

with no effect.

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

Use the preformatted text formatting option in the editor for all log entries and configuration output.
If screenshots are useful, feel free to include them.
- If possible, also include key error output in text form so it can be searched for.
Try to edit log output only minimally (if at all) so that it can be ran through analyzers / formatters by those trying to help you.

This is the typical behavior of HTTP 1.1 connections, which do not support header multiplexing and compression.

The Windows client can also speak http2, but the system variable
OWNCLOUD_HTTP2_ENABLED=1
must be set:

You will see that large amounts of small files will then be processed much faster.

Thanks for the response!

I did that and restarted it (rebooted entire computer actually). It now looks like its doing things differently (WEBDAV with GZIP compression)

I would compare transfer rates of small files vs big files. If big files saturate the link then the problem is related to processing and network overhead like database and/or network connection (e.g. http1 as ernolf suggested) if the transfer speed remains low with big files the issue is somewhere else like limited write performance of server disks. from my feeling this more an issue with the “server” side. I would definitely try to get rid of

I can’t tell you why but it looks your DB is too slow or too loaded so queries queue up and must wait for each other. Your system looks powerful so it should not be a bottleneck but maybe there is some resource limit/constraint coming from your hypervisor?

CPU load is much higher on one core - likely where you DB is running..
only one of the disks and parity is writing (and reading at the same rate! :O) - do you have any kind of replication which waits until data is written to different destinations? I would double check array and disk settings and ensure write cache is enabled and there is no extreme settings like “always check if the data is fully written to the disk”
