I have Nextcloudpi installed on a Raspberry PI for some time now. As main i would add a RAID 1 chain with two new USB drivis (4TB each one) and mantain the others 2 drives as are now.
I will mantain sda and sdb as USB Normal Drive
and sdc and sdd as RAID 1 chain.
My dubt if it is possible create RAID1 chain with 2 these new drives or is a risk for environment stability.
Thanks in advance for your help. Sorry for bad englisch/translation. I hope it is understandable.
You must be aware that it is software RAID, meaning software is managing read/write and you need to read/write to two disks instead of one. So there will be a performance issue.
Personally, I’d rather use a IntelNUC, or similar for AMD, like devices, if I wanted to do that. The overall power of the RPi is very limited, everything is used over USB, if the power is too low, you loose USB devices, in such a case your RAID goes out of sync, … If the system crashes, it won’t be good of either disk. Perhaps the 5 version is much better, and there are probably a lot of people that did a lot of tests regarding RAID on Raspberry pi that I’d check before.
