Summary of the issue you are facing:

I have been using NC for a long time and just upgraded to 31. I can create public shares with no issues, but I not longer see public share downloads listed under activity. It shows the share being created but nothing related to downloads.

I even have a share that came over from before the upgrade. I see download activity on that file from before the upgrade, but now when I access the public link nothing is logged.

In case it matters, when I upgrade, I got all kinds of “incorrect row format found in your database” errors. It is described in this post. I used that script and manually updated every row and the errors are gone. I have no idea if that matters, but I wanted to share.

I also found this GitHub issue which looks similar, but it relates to a different version. <–Update, this case is different because they still see activity if someone downloads a file. I see no activity other than “share” and “unshare”. I also posted the issue on GitHub.

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

  1. Create a shared file
  2. Open an incognito window
  3. Access shared file
  4. View activity either at the share level or at the nextcloud level - There is nothing listed

Log entries

Nextcloud

Please provide the log entries from your Nextcloud log that are generated during the time of problem (via the Copy raw option from Administration settings->Logging screen or from your nextcloud.log located in your data directory). Feel free to use a pastebin/gist service if necessary.

Here is the one error. I don’t think that it is relevant.

Configuration

Nextcloud

The output of occ config:list system or similar is best, but, if not possible, the contents of your config.php file from /path/to/nextcloud is fine (make sure to remove any identifiable information!):

As a quick update, I started perusing the database table, oc_activity. It matches what I am seeing. That is, it shows entries for sharing and unsharing files, but nothing related to access.

As I mentioned above, the last “public_share_file_download” item that I see is from 2/22 which is from before I upgraded. That file is still shared, and when I access it now, I no longer see an update in oc_activity.

As far as I remember the Activities for shared file downloads app is responsible for sending out notifications, but this app is not yet supported for NC 31.x.
