I’m not seeing an error but I am trying to figure out if this is even possible, and if it is how. I have a PLEX server currently set up and I’d like to have my family be able to download the media files via their users but PLEX doesn’t allow this. My family isn’t savvy enough to to be able to do it via FTP and something like NextCloud would offer extra capabilities that would be nice to have as well. I’m curious if anyone has found a way to set up NextCloud to offer read/download only access to additional files and folders other than those in the /html/data folder?
My second thought would be to symlink the files into the data folder and go from there as a one-way connection. Would that potentially work?
Any help in figuring this out would be greatly appreciated, I’d prefer not to somehow mess up my PLEX library in the process of testing if I’m blindly missing a potential issue.
To note, I did see the config setting for data directory, but the issue is my PLEX is stored in 3 separate folders and would be passed through to the NextCloud container via volumes. My thought is to pass through a single volume with these 3 symlinked to it already.
I think you’d want to add the PLEX media as “external storage” in nextcloud. I think you can set plex to put the metadata in the same folder as the media, which should reduce the number of places that need linked.
What are the 3 folders plex has?
From what i remember, the only folders i had were my media folders (TV, Movies, etc)
Have you looked into using emby? After trying both, i was much happier with the features that emby has.
Oh, I didn’t see that! That might work. Metadata isn’t a big deal as they mostly just want to be able to download the movie locally overnight if they are travelling.
The 3 folders I have, they are not required for PLEX, are TV, Movies, Music. I separate them for logical organization.
I have a lifetime PLEX Pass and it’s something my parents understand and their cable box supports it so, for now, I will be using it.
i would just either map whatever folder they’re in, or the individual folders into nextcloud. then add them using the “external storages” function. I wouldn’t personally want them to be merged.
