The issue you are facing: Used webupdater to update from NC 27.1.7 to NC 28. It went through all the steps automatically until the last step where it said to stop maintenance. I clicked on that step. When it was done, NC is no longer installed.

  3. Steps run automatically. Select stop maintenance mode.

[SOLVED] I ended up following this Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKEMCSNnNIs&t=579s however, instead of installing new, I verified that PHP, Apache2, and MariaDB were all good and running. I did have to reconstitute the nextcloud.config file, but was able to just edit the nextcloud.config.http.only file and save it, then chmod 755 for that file. I downloaded Nextcloud 27.1.8 archive into /var/www/html. After I unarchived it in that directory, I was able to start up the web interface and it asked if I wanted to “update” to 27.1.8. I chose yes and let it run through the script. When it was done, I could login as my regular user and see that all of my files were still in-tact. I’m going to stay away from ver 28.x until the number of HELP posts on ver 28.x updates go down.
