Nextcloud Licensing

Yes, you can do a lot of shitty things with any software, and there are enough IT service providers out there already doing that, with both open source and proprietary products, so I don’t think we need to encourage that here

My thoughts or feelings on this, and sorry if this sounds a bit harsh, are that if someone doesn’t have the time or ability to use a search engine, they shouldn’t be building a business around running Nextcloud or really any platform or IT system, at least not in a technical role.

Of course, if they are investors who want to get some preliminary information and then plan to hire real experts to run the technical side of their business, that would be a different matter

And of course also if they are willing to get their hands dirty and learn what is necessary. But I didn’t get that impression here. Sorry.

With the different installation methods for Nextcloud, there is no good document to summarize the different possibilities with advantages and disadvantages, although this could be helpful for “normal” users as well.

And if the setup of Nextcloud is very easy for the community, it will also be very easy for anybody wanting to use it for a business.

I try to avoid answering topics where I have the impression to invest more time and thought than the people asking the question.

Is there a satisfying answer to the licensing question? Then we can mark this topic solved…

Yep, and I can only imagine that this is somewhat intentional, because they want commercial users to contact them for a quote, which I can understand from a business perspective.

And “normal” users, like home users or small businesses rarly ever need support for more than a 100 or 500 users respectively, so I would recommend using AIO for ≤100 users, or a manual installation for 100-500 users. And everyone that needs support for more users, or actual support and consulting for business cases should contact Nextcloud GmbH or one of their partners, in my opinion.

Yeah that’s probably a good strategy…

That we would be for @Jagadish_Budagam to answer.

But I think most of the things asked here, can be found somwhere on nextcloud.com (support contracts, enterprise licences etc) or on the respective GitHub repos for Nextcloud and the various apps (software licencens). So I would mark the first answer as a solution.

Thank you everyone for answering my questions patiently. I am doing a poc on the nextcloud and I have gone throught the nextcloud documentation for few weeks and tried installalling the nextcloud manuall and nextcloud aio and nextcloud aio with reverse proxy installations.

Though I got some information from the nextcloud aio and other queries answered for other people and trying to gain some knowlege.

I raised few queries to cross check my knowledge as we have experts here before doing anything in an organization’s environment.

As I was successful in few ways or installations.

Thank you so much for the people who are very nice to me and answered my queries patiently.

I hope I will also able to contribute here once I gain some good knowledge on it.

It’s not about trying to make a business out of it. It’s the way this was going here. And I think this way here was no good one.
