I tried the app on Android and Ubuntu, looks both good
But as already mentioned by @gverdun the main downside for me is the cryptic file names it creates. This makes it impossible to read the notes without the Joplin app because you canāt find the right file without opening them one by one.
What I also donāt like is that the created notebooks are just another reference file instead of a sub-folder, but I guess the reason is for compatibility with different storage options where folder creation might not be supported.
So for now I will continue to use different apps on web (NC Markdown app), desktop (Typora) and mobile (still tryingā¦)

Content preview: You can just create a folder (e.g. Joplin) and extend your
Nextcloud + Joplin to replace Evernote. Iām excited about this!!! Thank you.
Looks good, but nonexistence of web client is still a show-stopper for me.
This is very exciting. Iāve been looking for a great note taking app forever. (I refuse to use Evernote.)
Thanks @laurent
@laurent, hey it could be possible to integrate Joplin with @brantje into NextNote as a web client backend. You can join their telegram chat here to discuss with him directly.
- App is based off TinyMCE, which is the exact same WYSIWYG system used by Evernote and Wordpress ā already has many of the features currently on Joplinās roadmap, including the ability to attach any arbitrary file within Nextcloud and share/edit notes among multiple users or groups.
- Devs are looking to add note encryption in their idea roadmap, so perhaps they could adopt your standard.
- devs are looking to add mobile apps on their roadmap, which could work with existing Joplin options.
- Jex support could be integrated into TinyMCE as a plugin.
- Html support currently works in NextNote from Evernote, but file based markdown support and Enex import could be added.
This app used to live under the old name ownNote in Owncloud, had Android support, and is currently testing before being released into the Nextcloud appstore. Works fine as an āAlphaā in Nextcloud 13 if youād like to install the latest Git release.
Example Image A, with photos added by drag and drop!
Example Image B, with table added by copy and paste.
That would solve multiple problems at once. Nextnote currently has no desktop/mobile editors, Joplin has no web client. Combining them would be the best of both worlds so to say.
As IĀ“m still watching the development of Joplin with Nextcloud I once again tried my luck and installed the Joplin iOS app. As I even tried every possible combination (user password, app password, changed URL in every possible way) of authentication information I couldnĀ“t manage to login. The error given is:
OCA\DAV\Connector\Sabre\Exception*PasswordLoginForbidden*
Any ideas?
The sync-url hast to lookmlike this:
https://your.server.com/nextcloud/remote.php/webdav
You must not enter the trailing / as the webclient shows ā¦ Did work with my V.13 installation
I tried it also this way. As my NC setup is in root directory mine looks like this: https://urltomy.nextcloud.net/remote.php/webdav
Whereās the mistake?
Would the remote.php still be there if you were using clean links or whatever itās called?
It should be something like this https://example.com/remote.php/webdav/Joplin and make sure that the Joplin folder already exists in Nextcloud.
Try adding an existing folder name at the end. I use it like that and it works. Also make sure you use an app password if you have 2fa.
I also tried that. App-Password and folder name: https://example.com/remote.php/webdav/Notes/Joplin
Maybe Joplin folder needs to be in root of Nextcloud directory?
Anyway, still wondering what ā*OCA\DAV\Connector\Sabre\Exception PasswordLoginForbidden ***ā means. No corresponding entry in nextcloud.log by the way.
Does you password by chance have a % in it? I ran into a problem with a different program recently where the password needed to be url-encoded, and decoded on the other end. Didnāt check source and I havent run into this with nextcloud but just throwing out there to try a very plain password for an easy test.
Itāll need to be in root/Joplin directory as laurent showed above. We arenāt able to customize the location of the joplin folder yet afaik
You can put it anywhere you want actually as long as you then provide the full URL to Joplin. Eg. it can be https://example.com/remote.php/webdav/Documents/Notes/Joplin
A user indeed reported a problem with a password that included non-ASCII characters. Unfortunately Iāve never managed to fix this so currently only ASCII passwords are supported. I think you would get a different error message though, like āCannot encode username/passwordā.
Hello,
thanks for the great work of integrating Joplin with Nextcloud.
I have one question, and I hope this is the right place for it.
I see that todo lists seems to be not integrated with tasks app in Nextcloud. So, if I understand well, Joplin synchronises with webdav protocol, which is only used for file sync, but not caldav protocol , which one let use calendar and to-do lists. Is it so?
If so, there is no way for me to see a list of all my Todo-notes, they will always be include inside their respective notebooks?
Thanks
Florian
