judging by your description, you’re not encrypting your instance. see 101: Network, domain and DNS
the mobile app is expecting an encrypted connection and requires a valid SSL certificate. a self-signed certificate may be an option, but will cause warnings in browsers and due to being very basic won’t work with some applications
