Haven’t got any replies so far. I filed an issue but it was suggested it was a user/config error. The issue may contain relevant information, though.
Why not give it a try and see if it works for you? Setting up an additional server is not hard, the biggest part was to convince MariaDB to let me in.
FWIW, I’m on 18.0.2.
