the forum crew had a discussion about the template few times already. The reason is simple - many users are ignorant and don’t read and follow the guidelines. they don’t spend time searching the forum and reading previous topics. Even today with this really detailed template showing how to ask the question and where to find the answers many many many users just add nothing and write nothing more than “I have a problem help required…” and definitely the forum crew is tired asking the same questions for millionth time. good example by OP is linked above: Where can I find the nextcloud config.php - topic has been discussed often, there is no mention what he tried which topics the checked and where he fails - just another “let me google that for your” additional load on few volunteers spending huge amount of their spare time on this forum.
Definitely the template if overwhelming and doesn’t fit many use-cases but at the moment we are not aware of any satisfying solution to guide and assist the topic creation in a better way. Ideally there would be multi-step assistant asking few questions and adopting according to the answers - but even the existing commercial plugin doesn’t look really comprehensive. so at the moment the text template looks best.
