Workflow to manage photos would benefit from bidirectional sync features:
- digital twin of selected iOS photos on Nextcloud share: we can then delete photos on iPhone and create new albums as compiled.
- No need to delete photos manually on selected albums / unsorted.
- iOS shared Albums to be supported Will shared photo albums be visible in iOS Client? to have access to everything
- on mobile a lower resolution images support much smaller space, faster loading
- seamless integration in backup flow

- Space on Nextcloud
Preferred workflow in consideration

Continuous backup of selectable objects: all photos unsorted and albums in original image quality - keep these

on Nextcloud share: copy select best photos and tag them with (XMP) and target album keywords.

sync / import this directory back with the iPhone as per point 1. For new albums created they have to be added to bi-dir sync list in the Nexcloud app.
As per discussion above the key for me is to select photos for bidirectional sync, like the timeline and/or selected albums.
