Please see the thread at the below link. I just redirected my profile to folders within nextcloud (desktop client, external storage), and this is the behavior I’m experiencing. Is there a fix/workaround?
They mention an app to overwrite the permissions, would that be a workaround for you?
I have not tried that app as the OP in that thread said it was buggy and caused other issues. It seems like this issue has been around for a long time. I’m surprised there is no actual fix for it. And this should be a fairly common feature request, as most windows machines will automatically redirect into onedrive if you login with a microsoft account. Wanting to redirect into nextcloud while trying to avoid onedrive seems like the next logical request.
There are no such open report on the bug tracker. If the developers are not aware of a problem, they won’t fix it.
Not sure, I was able to disable onedrive as I am not using it. And for many that is the point of using Nextcloud.
I was just curious, how you would sync your profile with oneDrive, and they recommend to place your profile data outside the usual location (C:/Users): Move your user profile folders to OneDrive - Wilkins IT Solutions Inc
Not sure how you did it, but if you did it the same way with Nextcloud, perhaps this changes something with the permissions.
Sorry, what I was trying to say is that it is normal nowadays to redirect to a sync client, whether it be onedrive, google drive, dropbox, etc, and none of those clients have this issue.
Onedrive does not have this issue, regardless of whether the sync folder is within c\users or not. I have the nextcloud folder within c\users currently.
I did test something that is so far working. The external storage I was using for the redirected profile was a local mount. I created another external storage using smb to the exact same folder. I redirected just my downloads folder to that external storage for now (different path, but is literally the same folder), and so far, the permissions issue does not exist. I do not know if it will pop up in a day or two.
