Summary of the issue you are facing:
When I synchronize a share link that is ‘view only’ with the windows App even if the option keep the local files is checked all the content is wiped out.
With the option ‘can edit’ there is no problem.
I don’t know if it is intended or a bug but it can lead to a bad situation, you should add a pop up or a message in red informing that it leads to this situation.
Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

Share a directory by external share in read only mode

copy the link a add it as a share in the Windows Nextcloud App for synchronization

Choose a folder having already content

You can select keep the local content or synchro with the server

The content of the local directory is entirely deleted
