What means "Keep versions for at least D1 days and delete when they exceed D2 days."?

Refering to Controlling file versions and aging — Nextcloud latest Administration Manual latest documentation :

Keep versions for at least D1 days and delete when they exceed D2 days.

Why is there a “keep” and a “delete” argument: D1, D2 ?

Is “keeping” not the same like “until deletion”?

And: How to configure this parameter, when I want to delete my file versions after 14 days?

I read it this way:

  • D1: all your file versions will definitely be kept this long. No matter what.
  • D2: everything that is older than this will be deleted.

If D2 > D1 then your files we be kept longer than the minimum. So the key is “at least” I guess.
