Hello Nextcloud Community Members & Nextcloud Team,

In our organization, we have just explored and installed Nextcloud Hub which is hosted on our on-premises server.

We are started using Nextcloud Features like

  1. Files
  2. Talk
  3. Mail
  4. Deck
  5. Tasks
  6. Contacts
  7. Calendars
  8. Notes
  9. Office Online

And we are planning to add several API in a Nextcloud dashboard

From these above features, we want to customize the application for developing Nextcloud basic features which are not there in the Nextcloud Application features & Need to be Improved.

  1. Talk - Doesn’t have audio call features through the web browser which is available only in mobile applications, Doesn’t have a desktop application like Whatsapp Application to use directly in Desktop Client.

  2. Mail- Nextcloud mail is not that much quicker as outlook or Gmail applications the time taken to sync the email is taking too long.

  3. Deck - Deck is a kanban style organization tool aimed at personal planning and project organization for teams integrated with Nextcloud but there are no sub-cards or sub-boards that can be created like a hierarchical structure to find the work more flexible.

  4. Settings for Administration Console- If I try to open settings from the Admin console it throws an internal server error.

  5. Nextcloud Office- While opening or editing the document the time taken here is huge this needs to be resolved.

Is there anyone to debug the above fixes?

Nextcloud Mail is only an imap client.

Perhaps you need a better server or an own Collabora Online server. Search the forum for Collabora or create an own thread for Collabora.

Hi @gowtham

The points, which are releated to performance depend on a lot of factors and it’s almost impossible to give specific advice without knowing more about your setup.

But here are a few bullet points that can affect the performance of a Nextcloud server:

  • Performance of the hardware, CPU, RAM, storage etc…
  • PHP version and configuration
  • Database configuartion
  • Memory Caching through Redis, APCu, memached

I recommend you to read the Nextcloud Admin Manual. This should give you at least an overview of possible messaures to optimize the performance of your server: https://docs.nextcloud.com/server/latest/admin_manual/installation/server_tuning.html

As for collabora, I would recommend you to use the Docker container if performance is important to you. The integrated server has gotten better, but it can’t compete with the separate Docker container when it comes to performance.

For the rest of your points. Developement takes place on GitHub. You can fork any of the repos and / or provide pull requests. Or if you aren’t a developer you can open feature requests and bug reports.

You can find in the internet a lot of free or cheap Managed Nextcloud hoster e.g. with Talk, Collabora Online, OnlyOffice, … and a lot of performance. In 2022 the difference between on-prem and cloud because of internet connections does not matter. You can test internet Nextclouds to see real possible Nextcloud performance. If your on-prem Nextcloud is slower than that you must change your settings e.g. with tuning. It is then your fault. Ok Nextcloud is not the fastest software. :wink: So you have to get out everything you can. :wink: :wink:

Use https://try.nextcloud.com . The performance of https.//demo1.nextcloud.com and https://demo2.nextcloud.com is not too bad. Password is “demo”. Also you can use the integrated dedicated Collabora Online server demo.eu.collaboraonline.com to see the performance of Nextcloud Office. Perhaps you also need on-prem a server only for Collabora Online and also for Nextcloud Talk.

As I have tried all documents still my Collabora server and demo server of Collabora is not working it is failed to open a document

I am running Splunk services in a docker on this server.

  • Talk - Doesn’t have audio call features through the web browser which is available only in mobile applications, Doesn’t
    have a desktop application like Whatsapp Application to use directly in Desktop Client.

These features are missing because they have not been implemented. Check the project github for details. It is what it is.

  • Mail- Nextcloud mail is not that much quicker as outlook or Gmail applications the time taken to sync the email is taking too long.

It it simply an email client. Makes sense it would perform no different than outlook or gmail email clients.

  • Deck - Deck is a kanban style organization tool aimed at personal planning and project organization for teams integrated with Nextcloud but there are no sub-cards or sub-boards that can be created like a hierarchical structure to find the work more flexible.

The features have not been implemented. See their github repo for details.

  • Settings for Administration Console- If I try to open settings from the Admin console it throws an internal server error.

Also unsure on this. Could be mis-configuration on your part. Could you record a short gif or video of what happens when you are opening or editing a document.
