Using NC talk with Dell usb speakerphone

The issue you are facing:

I set up the speakerphone with an old laptop (running lubunu) to function as a kind of intercom or monitor for an elderly and sick person. It works if we just leave the call open to the computer in my office or to my cell phone. I’m hoping the that we can make the set up a bit more efficient. The dell speakerphone has a few buttons on the front but I don’t know if we can make use of them.

Of course the mute button and the volume control work just fine, but there are two other buttons that Dell presumably designed to work with Microsoft teams or whatever. My idea is that we can use one of these buttons to initiate a call to me like a page rather than to leave the call running all day long.

Would this be difficult to set up?

Dell does not provide a software where you can configure that? If that is something fixed, e.g. calling MS Teams, I don’t know if it would be easy to put a “fake” MS Teams on your system that launches a Nextcloud Talk Call.

You could use a Raspberry Pico as a call button. There you can make it act as a keyboards and then make it launch a call.

Like this, I’d rather take an old mobile device where you can install the talk app, and then use this app to make these calls.
