Getting help

In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.

Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:

(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).

The Basics

  • Nextcloud Server version (e.g., 29.x.x):
    • 30.0.11
  • Operating system and version (e.g., Ubuntu 24.04):

  • Web server and version (e.g, Apache 2.4.25):
    • nginx
  • Reverse proxy and version _(e.g. nginx 1.27.2)
    • nginx

    • 8.3
  • Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? (Yes / No):
    • yes
  • When did this problem seem to first start?
    • past 2 weeks
  • Installation method (e.g. AlO, NCP, Bare Metal/Archive, etc.)
    • bare metal into a VM
  • Are you using CloudfIare, mod_security, or similar? (Yes / No)
    • yes

Summary of the issue you are facing:

I recently decommissioned an old samba domain controller. I thought I had successfully migrated my users to a different LDAP (slapd)-based system. However, now when I log in, I am no longer connected to any of my files. Same for my other users. I’m guessing even though both users have/had the same userid, password, and email, nextcloud is using something else to build the UUID that connects a user to his/her data. Is there a way to re-attach the users?

My user (which should be an admin) now shows a bunch of default Nextcloud sample data in the web UI. Is there some patching up of my database I can do to reconnect the users correctly?

Configuration

Nextcloud

The output of occ config:list system or similar is best, but, if not possible, the contents of your config.php file from /path/to/nextcloud is fine (make sure to remove any identifiable information!):

Apps

The output of occ app:list (if possible).

Tips for increasing the likelihood of a response

  • Use the preformatted text formatting option in the editor for all log entries and configuration output.
  • If screenshots are useful, feel free to include them.
    • If possible, also include key error output in text form so it can be searched for.
  • Try to edit log output only minimally (if at all) so that it can be ran through analyzers / formatters by those trying to help you.

likely when you migrated to a new LDAP you didn’t just replace the connection but rather created new one so you had two separate LDAP connections. And for this reason user from “new LDAP server” are not the same as user from “old LDAP server”. if you still have the old LDAP in place likely the easiest way would be to update old ldap connection with new server.. if not there is a link, I think a table in the DB holding the connection between user@ldap1 ↔ user@nextcloud and you need to replace the link with the new server.

OK thanks very much. I needed to add the new connection as a separate one, since one was Active Directory and one was LDAP (though I know both are LDAP under the covers). I’ll look for through the tables in my server and try to find how to remap them.
