Nextcloud 23.0.2, 22.2.5 and 21.0.9 are out, bringing a series of bug fixes. Keen eyes might notice we skipped one release – we pulled them shortly after building when a new problem surfaced. This took a while to get fixed, causing a bit of a delay. But after a lot more testing, the releases are fully cooked and ready for you. This is the first minor release for the 23 series, and for those 22 users waiting to dip their toes in the water – now’s the time! For everybody, as always: keep your data safe, update!

Final 21 release: time to move to 22!

This also marks the final release of Nextcloud 21, so start preparing your move to 22 or 23 if you haven’t yet.

What’s new?

There are no features in these releases, just minor fixes all over. For example, when you edit a document in Nextcloud directly from your file manager (right-click – Nextcloud – Edit) you will no longer see the “link file” option. This does not work in this mode, as the editing session is using a token for security, rather than making you log in.

Like that, the improvements are all usability, stability, translation and documentation fixes and security hardenings. As always we strongly recommend you update to ensure you have a secure and reliable content collaboration platform that respects your digital sovereignty!

When will the update be offered?

As you might know, Nextcloud does staged roll-outs to end user servers through our updater. We have not yet made Nextcloud 23.0.x available for 22 users, but will begin the roll-out in the coming 2 weeks.

Stay safe: keep your server up-to-date!

Minor Nextcloud releases are security and functionality bug fixes, not rewrites of major systems that risk user data! We also do extensive testing, both in our code base and by upgrading a series of real-world systems to the test versions. This ensures that upgrades to minor releases are generally painless and reliable. As the updates not only fix feature issues but also security problems, it is a bad idea to not upgrade!

This is, of course, also true for apps: Keeping them updated has security benefits, besides the new features and other bug fixes.

If you are maintaining a mission-critical Nextcloud system for your enterprise, it is highly recommended that you get yourself some insurance (and job security… who gets blamed if the file handling system isn’t working as expected?). A hotline to the core Nextcloud developers is the best guarantee for reliable service for your users, and the job safety of you as system administrator.

What brings you to this conclusion? I don’t see any obvious reason why an update from 23.0.1 to 23.0.2 wouldn’t work…

It doesn’t offer the upgrade at all (neither in gui or On updater.phar
And as far as I know it’s 100% rollout if you are on 23.xx already. Not staged like 30%

I wouldn’t worry just yet… Usually some time passes from the announcement until an update is actually available… On my instance it still shows 23.0.2 RC1 in the beta channel.

Just upgraded my instance from 23.0.1 to 23.0.2 via the web UI. The upgrade process went flawlessly.

@syker69 Just check again from time to time… And if you don’t receive a notification just yet be patient. This time I am confident that everyone will get it. And if for some reason it should cause problems again, you’ll be glad in the end if you weren’t one of those who already installed it

Updating from 22.2.3 to 22.2.5 (docker) broke my Collabora (docker, latest) connection. While Nextcloud says it can see the Collabora server in the settings panel, opening any text document or spreadsheet just renders a blank page. Before the update, I could just click on a document and it would open in Collabora.
I started the Collabora docker image manually and whenever I try to open a document file, nothing will be logged in the console. All I see is this:

It seems that Nextcloud simply doesn’t try to talk to Collabora anymore. Any idea how to fix this?

I had a similar problem when upgrading from NC20.
I finally removed (purged) the collabora docker and started from scratch. But This may not work for you if the NC itself is in docker. In the end the browser cache also confused things.

Can I migrate to a new server instead of upgrading. Unsolved issues with webfinger, nodeinfo and Collabora when upgrading to 21.0.7

I solved it! This is what I did (not sure if all details are necessary) I took a backup and made a snapshot of the VPS. Uninstalled most apps. Kept only the most important. I removed CollaboraCode completely. Opened the terminal and put the server in maintenance mode Removed Docker completely by issuing sudo apt-get purge docker-ce docker-ce-cli containerd.io sudo rm -rf /var/lib/docker sudo rm -rf /var/lib/containerd did the upgrade - this time I got NC21RC3 Put maintenance mode off C…

I cleared the browser cache but that doesn’t help.
Also tried removing all nextcloud and collabora docker images and containers to rebuild them again but the situation remains unchanged.
Also tried removing the collabora app and reinstalling it.

So while the collabora app can see the server, it still makes no attempt to connect to it according to the collabora terminal running in docker.

NextCloud is a good tool for many people : it’s a fact.
BUT : release too many version is the worst thing for an app : bug and bug and so many bug.

• client dekstop having many issues (opening main windows and stuff …)
• collobora server broken …

I updated the collabora docker image to collabora/code:21.11.2.4.1 and the Nextcloud Collabora Online App (which is called Nextcloud Office on apps.nextcloud) to v 4.2.5. That fixed the problem!
