Getting help

In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.

Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:

(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).

Some or all of the below information will be requested if it isn’t supplied; for fastest response please provide as much as you can. :heart:

I have been able to add 2 mail a/c’s, ie gmail and my isp provider but cannot add my hotmail a/c. I used to be able to do this in Nextcloud (can’t remember exactly how long ago). I’ve tried using and app password from microsoft after turning off 2 step verification in ms but I just get imap password is incorrect. Can someone advise what settings they use to add a hotmail a/c to Nextcloud please?

Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):

Log entries

Please provide the log entries from your Nextcloud log that are generated during the time of problem (via the Copy raw option from Administration settings->Logging screen or from your nextcloud.log located in your data directory). Feel free to use a pastebin/gist service if necessary.

PASTE HERE

Web Browser

If the problem is related to the Web interface, open your browser inspector Console and Network tabs while refreshing (reloading) and reproducing the problem. Provide any relevant output/errors here that appear.

PASTE

The output of your Apache/nginx/system log in /var/log/____:

The output of occ config:list system or similar is best, but, if not possible, the contents of your config.php file from /path/to/nextcloud is fine (make sure to remove any identifiable information!):

The output of occ app:list (if possible).

Tips for increasing the likelihood of a response

  • Use the preformatted text formatting option in the editor for all log entries and configuration output.
  • If screenshots are useful, feel free to include them.
    • If possible, also include key error output in text form so it can be searched for.
  • Try to edit log output only minimally (if at all) so that it can be ran through analyzers / formatters by those trying to help you.

Microsoft did disable the old Basic-authentication a time ago.

Try to follow the guide

Does this require signing up for extra (paid) services in Microsoft? I’m not signed up for any Azure Services so don’t get the first image screen options. I can access the Manage Microsoft Entra ID to open the next image shown but then I’m stuck with messages to sign in (that don’t accept my Microsoft a/c)

Well I created a free Azure account and followed the instructions in the Nextcloud Administration Manual (the Microsoft pages have changed a bit since the manual was last updated I guess). But I still cannot add the MS mail account in Nextcloud, the MS Dialog appears to be ok but after I click the button to proceed Nextcloud just gives the error message “There was an error while setting up your account”. In the logs I see this error:

{
“reqId”: “PPCtvwIwUH7fTFSDjiaw”,
“level”: 1,
“time”: “2025-09-17T09:00:58+00:00”,

“user”: “username”,

“version”: “31.0.9.1”,
“data”: {

Obviously I’ve not provided my public ip or Nextcloud user name but replaced them. Any idea how to resolve the logged error?
