Talk widget opens links in new tab/window

I’ve seen several closed topics for this issue, but it’s still an issue.
Clicking any link in the Talk dashboard widget opens a new browser tab.
Is this a setting I’ve missed, or is this really still broken?

I’ve tested various dashboard widgets, Talk, Upcoming Events, Notes, Favourite Files, Notes, and they all seem to behave like this, so one could almost assume that this isn’t broken, but is working as designed…

Photos doesn’t open in a new tab, inconsistency is bad design
Some people might like it this way but I don’t, and it’s not configurable, it’s gotta be a fairly small project to make it so.

Or maybe a bug in this specific case.

Well, assumptions with a disrespectful undertone won’t get you anywhere. If it’s important to you, then check if there is already an issue/feature request on Github, and if not, then open one.

Certainly could be, but it’s quite a long standing one. I’ve seen several threads going back a few years with people describing the same issue.

What disrespect? Inconsistency is bad design and within a few years I’d think it would be fixed one way or the other. All open in new tabs, or none.
Best case scenario, make it configurable so everyone can have what they want.
Wanting software I like and use to be better isn’t disrespectful.
I’m not a developer so I don’t know how to do a feature request on Github.
How do you do that?

I was referring to this unnecessary remark:

Certainly not a bad insult, but still belittling and therefore unnecessary and unproductive, in my opinion.

Go to the respective repo on Github and click on New issue:

https://github.com/nextcloud/server/issues

However, there seem to be at least two open issues related to this topic already, so perhaps you could add a comment to one of them:

https://github.com/nextcloud/server/issues/51332

https://github.com/nextcloud/server/issues/51648

I was referring to the fact that the bug/inconsistency itself appeared to be fairly small.
And that it would be a small project to “make it so” = easy to make it configurable.
Sorry if my wording was off.

I’ll check out the directions when I’m able to. Thanks.
