Sync status in taskbar is not showing actual status

Desktop client v 4.0.6 on macOS

Since the step to v4.0.0 there are apparently ongoing issues with the status icon. As you can see below, the taskbar icon shows the tiny green hook, while in fact it is syncing/checking for changes:

I guess this might be linked to the unfortunate icon change that was made when going from 3.x to 4.x. If I understood this correctly, the icons should by now look like shown here, but ever since the 4.x version there is something wrong with the icon. (I don’t want to start the whole "icon too small”-diskussion again, but I really wish the icon would still behave as in v3.17.3 :frowning: )

Am I the only one with this?

Are you using classical synchronization or the macOS file provider extension?

Sorry, what are you referring too? I’m using the Nextcloud Client currently in v4.0.6.

Okay, you linked the build without the file provider extension (“Virtual File System”) feature. That means you are using the traditional synchronization with a local folder, right?

Otherwise, you can also check in your client settings where there is a tab for virtual files and a checkbox to switch it.

Well, it seems I still can’t follow you. sorry.

I have on the client created a local folder “Nextcloud" in my users directory. And then after the client is installed and the credentials and details for my server are added, I choose to sync the files with this local folder. It has never been different IMHO.

However, I cannot find anything about “Virtual File System" or "Virtual Files” in the settings:

Thanks, that also clarifies the setup. You are using the macOS client build which offers only the classical synchronization and does not ship the file provider extension which offers a different way of integration into macOS which is on-demand like iCloud Drive. The status propagation differs for the different synchronization methods.

Thank you. As suggested, report filed here.

One more question if I may: Where can I find more details/docu on the “file provider extension which offers a different way of integration into macOS which is on-demand like iCloud Drive." as I have never heard of that before (and I’m with NC already since the very early days where it was still Owncloud). Thanks in advance.

It is due for an update, though. A lot has changed since last summer.
