Symlinks in external storages

One of my external storage (mounted to my Nextcloud through SFTP) includes symbolic links. However, the symlinks are not seen by Nextcloud.

Is there a way for Nextcloud to see and navigate through symlinks within external storages? If this is discouraged, explanations are welcomed.

There are some feature requests in owncloud:

I think there were some problems in the past with loops that the use of symlinks has been discouraged. I’m moving this to feature requests.
