I want to recommend the Knowledge Explorer plugin for Discourse. You can test a live version of it here on our hackerspace website vs our regular Discourse page.
Knowledge Explorer combines the view options in the top right of the forum such as tag or category with the search bar. This makes browsing through the forum much easier for the casual user, especially when there is so much information to sort through on your site.
