Stuck on updating nextcloud - cannot see any solution on other topics

Nextcloud version (eg, 29.0.5): 29.02
Operating system and version (eg, Ubuntu 24.04): Ubuntu

The issue you are facing:

Good Morning Everyone,

Currently running NC 29.0.2 and trying to update to the latest version. The GUI update appears to have got stuck at step 3. Now looking on the forum people suggest deleting the .step file.

The issue is, if I try and browse to the location of the data folder I get access denied as it is owned by the www-data user.

I am unsure how I can access the directory?

Any help would be hugely appreciated as looking online on the forum has not assisted!
