it seems that the ssl certificate of the update server has expired this night. Can somebody please update the certificates?

I think the OP means the expired certificate for https://updates.nextcloud.com which prevents users from using the updater at the moment.
You are right. I mixed up with the URL’s. https://updates.nextcloud.com/ is expired since this night.
