Social says @user@localhost not @ virtual hostname

Where does Social get its hostname from? I’m running Nextcloud at Apache virtualhost example.com, but Social insists that my fediverse identifier is @user@localhost, not @user@example.com. How do I get it to pick this up correctly?

The Webfinger doc also returns localhost in the URL, instead of the virtual hostname. Just where do they get this from?
