The issue you are facing: HERE IS MY QUESTION, BELOW…
I installed Nextcloud. Then I installed tailscale, for security. Very long story short, I hastily deleted some important files for my Nextcloud config during clean-up and disabled some functionality. I tried to recover it from a much older backup, but I was having major problems restoring things. I got frustrated, so I started blowing it all away.

I have retained my data, config, and database (but it might be pointing to a specific version of Nextcloud). The database was preventing me from upgrading and restoring access. Seems to have versioning values.

The question is: Can I basically blow away all my nextcloud files/config and rebuild to work on my tailscale, to restore what I once had?
Should I retain my data and config, and maybe start the database from scratch?

I am very frustrated with what I just did, because I had it working and then I pretty much destroyed it.

Is this the first time you’ve seen this error? (Y/N):

Steps to replicate it:

The output of your Nextcloud log in Admin > Logging or errors in nextcloud.log in /var/www/:

The output of your Apache/nginx/system log in /var/log/____:

Hello @actionscott, welcome to the Nextcloud community! :handshake:
depending what you want review server_migration topics and respective docs… many tried recovering from half-broken system and hint might help you. If you want to start from scratch just do it, add the files to the storage and perform occ files:scan… recovering the server has more or less nothing to do with the way you access it. I never get the reason but some people use tailscale with Nextcloud

Hi wwe, thank you for the warm welcome and the advice. I will do some reading and re-attempt to get this working.

For your last point, how can I use Nextcloud with an ISP using CGNAT, without using tailscale?

You will probably have to use a different VPN server or Cloudflare, for example. Or you will have to repair it after all. As described above, it is often better to simply reinstall Nextcloud, restore the files and import the files again. Or you can return to a backup status where everything was still running.

Thanks for reaching out with your thoughts. I was able to restore to an older backup, which I originally did not think would work. I was getting lots of versioning issues with the database, but I got through it.

Nextcloud is working again and I am thankful for that!
