Prevent users from storing data locally. Only in shared folders (SMB, Webdav, etc.)

Nextcloud version (eg, 29.0.5): [Nextcloud Hub 8] (29.0.7)

The issue you are facing:

Hello to everybody: This actually seems to be a pretty newbie question. Sadly enough I haven’t found a topic resembling my question. However if my question has been answered earlier: Just point me to it. Thank you for your attention!

I’d like to prevent users from storing data locally (meaning in the NC’s local storage). Instead I’d like to force each and every user to solely and exclusively store data on the external storage provided (is it possible to even move the trash to the external storage?). I am pretty sure that this is possible, but I haven’t found the appropriate setting. So please shed some light on this topic.

Thank you in advance!

Best regards,

tfranzke

I would recommend Group Folders once this Samba issue is resolved

Two further references:

You can set the user quota to 0 B (bytes). Then the users can only write to shared group folders, for example.

You can take a look at the Guests app. Perhaps this is an alternative for some users.
