Well OneDrive can be used to backup desktop and documents etc… Can NextCloud do the same thing, like install the app and suddenly all your desktop icons, document etc appear.
Onedrive is similar to Nextcloud is no backup solution but a sync tool which creates and updates copies of your documents - this definitely protects your from hardware issue on one system but logical defects e.g. if malware encrypts your files this will distribute the encryption to every connected client - which absolutely the idea behind sync tools.
But yes you can install a client and the documents from defined folders will appear on the server (and other clients connected using same account).
