PHP Version incorrectly compared

I am really not sure what to do about this. I am attempting to configure for the first time and opening index.php gives me a page showing only this:

This version of Nextcloud is not compatible with PHP 7.1.
You are currently running 7.3.7-1+0~20190710.40+debian9~1.gbp032aec.

Um, OK, so it’s not compatible with 7.1 and I’m running 7.3. So why is it telling me that instead of installing?

Hi and welcome here  ,

You’re gonna need to tell us some more input:

  • Which version of Nextcloud you are using
  • Which installation process you are using: Docker, manual, Debian package…
  • Are you running multiple PHP installations on your server?

Cheers,

That’s strange, because PHP 7.1 is still supported by Nextcloud 16.0.3.

Nevertheless, there are always to different PHP components installed and used on a server, the PHP CLI version and the WEB version. Are you sure, that both components have been upgraded to v7.3?

I had inadverently downloaded a very old version - I grabbed latest-9… from https://download.nextcloud.com/server/releases/ without realizing they were sorted by version number and the most recent was at the bottom. I’m reinstalling version 16 and things seem to be going fine.
