PHP 8.3 Nextcloud 30.0.1

hi
i would like to know if Nextcloud 30.0.1 is compatible with PHP 8.3 on a Debian 12 system with Apache2, because for now i am using PHP 8.2.24 and i would like to update it without breaking my Nextcloud instance.
Thanks

Yes, 8.3 is compatible and the recommended version, but 8.2 is also still supported: System requirements — Nextcloud latest Administration Manual latest documentation

Thank you for your help

Why don’t you just use the PHP version that comes with Debian 12 Bookworm (PHP 8.2)? That would be much easier and you probably don’t have any real advantages with PHP 8.3. At most, you’ll have some trouble with the next Debian update.

Whereby the coordination of linux release with PHP at Nextcloud is optimised for Ubuntu. It may therefore be necessary to install a third-party source at some point. Perhaps when Debian is quite outdated in the middle of next year before the new release or you wait with Debian Trixie till 2026. But with any luck, Nextcloud 32 (30 + 2) will also support PHP 8.2 that you can change to Debian 13 (Trixie) in Nextcloud 31 or Nextcloud 32.

you are probably right, I will wait and stay with the php8.2 version as long as Nextcloud supports it for now

Hi,

similar problem.

I had installed NCPI 29 automatically with PHP 8.1.x on a Raspberry 5 in the summer. In the meantime, NCPI has been updated to 30.0.1. But now, the message comes that I should update PHP to 8.2 urgently.

Unfortunately, I don’t know, how can I do that without breaking the system.

Can someone send me an instructions for this step? Should I do this update in NCPI or directly on the Raspi5?

There is no active support for php8.1.x since 2023 anymore. Just security updates. Active support for 8.2.x will end this december. I would recommend to go to 8.3 directly.

I have never used nextcloud pi, but maybe this link would help to upgrade. https://help.nextcloud.com/t/staying-up-to-date/126259

Even backup your nextcloud config file, secrests extra, dump your database and backup you data volume and install and migrate to a new sdcard if you are worried about messing up your main install.
