Getting help
In order to help you as efficiently (and quickly!) as possible, please fill in as much of the below requested information as you can.
Before clicking submit: Please check if your query is already addressed via the following resources:
- Official documentation (searchable and regularly updated)
- How to topics and FAQs
- Forum search
(Utilizing these existing resources is typically faster. It also helps reduce the load on our generous volunteers while elevating the signal to noise ratio of the forums otherwise arising from the same queries being posted repeatedly).

Summary of the issue you are facing:
Started from scratch due to an error during upgrade to 32.0.5. Went in to admin panel to see what needed attention. Saw the below “Red X” warning and went about editing all the php files to reflect 512M (started w/ 1024M then put it back to 512M)
RED X - PHP memory limit
The PHP memory limit is below the recommended value of 512 MB. Some features or apps - including the Updater - may not function properly.
Steps to replicate it (hint: details matter!):
-
Not replicated - persistent warning in the Admin Overview since first log in
-
Attempts to repair:
- Updated php/8.3/cli/php.ini to 1024M (later reduced it back to 512M
- updated php/8.3/FPM/php.ini to reflect 512M
- updated php/8.3/apache2/php.ini
- checked .htaccess and .user.ini in /var/www/nextcloud/
- did a grep -r “memory_limit” /etc/php/8.3/ to find any other references to a memory limit.
- Restarted services / rebooted device

Tips for increasing the likelihood of a response
- Use the
preformatted textformatting option in the editor for all log entries and configuration output. - If screenshots are useful, feel free to include them.
- If possible, also include key error output in text form so it can be searched for.
- Try to edit log output only minimally (if at all) so that it can be ran through analyzers / formatters by those trying to help you.
